The aim of the first squad is to introduce the swimmers to a wide range of competitive skills and to develop stroke technique for the four competitive strokes. The swimmers should attend a minimum of two sessions per week. There are time and skill criteria for movement up to the second squad. Progress is recorded using a sticker sheet.
The aim of the second squad is to develop the competitive abilities of the swimmers through a training program based on technique and stamina. Taking part in competitions is an essential part of the programme. Swimmers in this squad are required to commit to at least two sessions per week.
This squad is for older swimmers who are unable to commit to more than two sessions per week and have more limited competition opportunities. Sessions will be fitness based and swimmers are expected to take part in time trials over all distances, club championships, time bands and other local competitions when selected for the team.
