French Exchange

The Trip

Since 1982, HDASC has been involved in a successful exchange programme with the French Swimming Club, Serres Castet, based in the South West of France close to the city of Pau. The exchange is a cultural as well as a sporting exchange and lifelong friendships have been made over the years.

The exchange operates on a 3 year cycle: HDASC swimmers visit France in year 1; Serres Castet swimmers visit us in year 2; and there is a break in year 3.

When in France, swimmers stay with host families, whilst the accompanying adults stay in rented accommodation. The hospitality given to our Club members has always been most generous, and strong, lasting friendships are often formed between swimmers and adults from both clubs. For many of our swimmers, being able to participate in this exchange has been a highlight of their swimming careers.

Swimmers must be aged at least 12 to participate.

When HDASC is hosting the exchange, the club organises a full social and swimming programme in which host families can participate. All Haddington swimmers and their families are welcome and encouraged to join in with many of these events and trips; it’s a great way to get to know other club members. It doesn’t matter how old your swimmer is – all club families are eligible to host.

There is usually some fundraising activities to help cover the cost of the programme which is yet another great way to come together as a club, meet other parents/carers and contribute to the continued success of such an important programme.
