“Both my children come to the club for the friendships as much as for the swimming. To see them all support and encourage each other is very special”

Squads
Skills Squad (in partnership with Enjoy Leisure):
Head and Lead Coach:
Demi Borthwick
The Skills squad offers children an intermediate step between the learn-to-swim programs and our Minnows squad. The focus is on improving stamina and helping the swimmer become more confident in their ability. This squad is tailored to the children and will help improve their stroke technique and teach skills such as sculling, diving and turns, making swimmers ready to join our Minnows squad.
Squad 1: Minnows
Head and Lead Coach:
Demi Borthwick
Minnows focus on developing good technique in all strokes, learning new skills such as tumble turns and diving, introducing competition skills/experience and building stamina and fitness so that children become better, stronger, faster swimmers. Children in this squad are expected to attend at least 2 out of 3 available training sessions and to participate in competitions appropriate to their age/ability.
Squad 2: Blue Fins
Lead Coach:
Hannah Green
Blue Fins focus on improving technique, fitness and stamina and further developing their competition skills and speed, participating in competitions suitable to their age and ability. Swimmers in this squad progress to attending all 3 of the available training sessions.
Once a certain level is achieved, swimmers will be invited to attend for additional training on Sunday mornings, known as “Blue Fins 2”. Swimmers will then attend 4 sessions, working towards entry criteria for Jack Macks and with no set time scale, swimmers are only promoted when they meet the requirements for Jack Macks Squad.
Squad 3: Jack Macks
Lead Coach:
Jamie Ward
Jack Macks continue to work on technique, fitness and skills and is the main competition squad, aiming for East District level Competitions and potentially being selected for ELST. They train for 4 sessions, plus a land training session.
Squad 4: Marlins
Lead Coach:
Jamie Ward
Marlins squad is designed to enable swimmers to continue training and focus on technique and train alongside Jack Macks, without the requirement to compete. Swimmers can still compete but only when and if they choose. Swimmers join by arrangement with the Head Coach, from Blue fins, Jack Macks and ESLT, and are aged 11 and over. Swimmers may join 2 out of the 3 sessions available. Please note we have Master Swimmers who also train with this squad.
Squad 5: The East Lothian Swim Team ( ELST )
Coach:
Jamie Ward
ELST is a composite team of swimmers from Haddington, Musselburgh and Tranent clubs. This squad consists of our most talented, committed swimmers who have the ability and ambition to train for, and compete at East District, Scottish National and British National levels. ELST has its own sub-groups and schedule, and swimmers train between 6-9 times a week depending on age/ability. Swimmers retain strong links with their home club, Haddington, competing for the Club at certain events and participating in social events.
